| Sri Lanka Council for the Blind had been gazetted as an approved charity as far back
as November 1971 under LDB 7/63.We have had to date eminent personalities of this
organization the late Sir Senerath Gunawardena, Mr. A.S. Chatoor, Dr K.L.V.
Alagiyawanna, Mr. S.M. Benjamin, Dr. Wickrama Weerasooriya and Mr.Amaradasa
Gunawardena and Mr. S.L. Hettiarachchi the current Hony. Secretary cum Executive
Director the most senior living member of this organization from the year 1957. This is
the only premier, principal national service provider organization for the Blind / Vision
Impaired persons in the whole of Sri Lanka . Hence, our services not confined to a
selected membership but open to the Blind / Vision Impaired community at large
irrespective of the class, creed, or denomination and all in all a non sectarian body.
This council is governed by an executive committee of 23 members while 60 % of the
committee consists of the Blind / Vision Impaired persons as members. The
composition of the general council is through life members and honorary members of
sighted and Blind /Vision Impaired persons. The executive committee is elected
annually. Our concern is also transparency. Openness and accountability. |
